Griffs vs. Rivermen Preview – (Or Are You Ready For Some Goals?)

It's Louie the Laker's offseason job.

The Griffins engage in another Midwest Division battle tonight, as they host the St. Louis Blues' AHL affiliate the Peoria Rivermen.  The Griffins, who enter play today seventh in the West, have won both of their prior meetings with last-place Peoria this season.  Both victories were recorded at Peoria's Carver Arena last month by a combined score of 9-4.

The Rivermen have allowed the most goals and scored the third-fewest goals in the AHL this season, while the Griffins boast a top-ten offense and top-ten defense.  Peoria has recorded the lowest penalty minutes total in the league with 271; Grand Rapids has been in the box one minute more this season, so there's not much of an advantage there for either side.  Center T.J. Hensick is Peoria's leading point-producer, as he heads into this game with 20 points (15 assists) in 20 games.

For the Griffins, Riley Sheahan (aka Tinky Winky) will look to keep the hot hand; he had two assists in Saturday's victory over Texas.  This would be a good night to get Gustav Nyquist back on track; the Swede is pointless in three and goalless in six.  Tomas Tatar has scored five times in the last five games but Texas held him to a -4 and off the score sheet; look for him to get back on track tonight.

Should be a good one at Van Andel Arena; recap of the game should be ready to go soon after the game's conclusion.  It's recommended you follow me on Twitter @jeremyberen but of course it's not required.  Go Griffs!
