Red Wings vs Oilers Recap: 11.2.13

Sorry, late once again. The Red Wings had no trouble beating the Oilers last night and Mrazek picked up his first career shutout in the 5-0 win.

More after the jump:

The only line that isn’t absolutely buzzing for the Wings right now is the second line. They’re holding their own, don’t get me wrong, but the other lines are playing superb hockey right now.

This team is completely different with Helm in the lineup. His speed and determination out there get the rest of the team going. It was great to see him flying down the ice and scoring what would become the winning goal. See, his back was never an issue. He was secretly getting a hand transplant and as you can see, it was a success.

Mrazek didn’t have to make many big saves, but he made the ones he needed to. I liked his aggressive play out there, rushing forward to move the puck when he could.

NOHS Three Stars of the Game:

First Star: Darren Helm. What did you expect? We get paid per Helm mention on this blog, so if Helm scores a goal, or if Helm gets and assist, or if Helm kills a penalty, or if Helm back-checks, or if Helm…, er… HELM HELM HELM HELM HELM! Anyways, a glorious goal that hardly anyone saw coming.

Second Star: Alfredsson. Two nice assists.

Third Star: Tatar, Andersson, Kindl. Wasn’t willing to leave any of these guys out, so you get Frankenthirdstar today. All three had a goal and an assist.

Things to Keep Doing: Scoring goals and allowing few shots. That seems to work well.

Things to Stop Doing Forever: Brendan Smith took some bad penalties out there. Stop, k?

Next game is Monday night against the Jets. Northern Illinois Hockey Club whooped on them pretty badly, so they’ll likely bring it. Be ready, Wings.

Oh, and before I forget, do you know who was really good at both ends of the ice last night?

Scratch that.
