Homer! Demolition Man. The Angry Chipmunk. Whatever we use to describe him, it is out of pure admiration. How can you not love the guy who spent his entire career with one team being one of the biggest pains in the neck for opposing goalies/defensemen simply through the art of non-violent resistance? Which is the same art I managed growing up, playing the victim so my 3 older brothers would take heat anytime they removed me from anything I did. I think I sort of minored in non-violent resistance in college when I’d stay at bars well past the point of being able to be removed peacefully.
In any event, Pavel Datsyuk is the man we all watch youtube highlights of when we are bored. He is exciting, creative, a real artist out there. People don’t exaggerate when they call him a magician. But Tomas Holmstrom? I don’t think he quite has the youtube popularity (i.e. internet money) that Pasha has, but I say we make an effort.
How can you not marvel at moments like this, from Game 7 of the 2002 WCF against the Colorado Avalanches (his is goal #1, got us going, at about the :19 mark)
It is my favourite Holmstrom deflection ever. Favourite non-deflective Holmstrom moment? This compilation:
