Red Wings Recap: 4.1.2012

Red Wings win 2-1 in a shootout. Howard played well and Hudler got the only goal for Detroit in regulation to pick up the win.

Recap after the jump:

That was a big two points, for sure. With the win, Detroit goes up on Nashville for fourth place, though they have a game in hand.

Remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about how the Wings of this season were like the Wings from 2008, except this year we don’t have a guy suddenly showing up and producing offensively like Franzen did in 2008? We do now…

Nyquist needs to be on the PP with Franzen and Datsyuk. He was so good out there today, there were times I thought he was Pavel until I saw the ‘4’ on his sweater. Maybe take Hudler off the PP? I know that’s strange considering he was sort of the hero tonight, but what can I say? Nyquist is just too good with the puck to sit on the bench.

When the third period started, I told my dogs (who agreed with me) that Hudler has one of the best shots on the team, but he rarely uses it. Then he blasted one from the top of the circle that Clemmenson barely stopped, then scored. Hudler, if you’re reading this, shoot the puck, man.

Quincey will be suspended for his hit on Kopecky. That was just a dumb play and we’re darn lucky it didn’t cost the Wings the game. I’m guessing 2 games, but only because Kopecky came back. But he will sit, no doubt about it.

NOHS Three Stars of the Game:

First Star: Hudler. He finally shot the puck and look what happened?

Second Star: Howard. Still a tad shakey, but it took a heck of a shot to beat him and that was the only one that did.

Third Star: Datsyuk/Nyquist. They’re the same guy, I’m certain.

NOHS Favorite Moment of the Game: Without a doubt it was Pavel flipping the puck over the net. Had that gone in, it would have been the play of the year. H’s going to score like that someday.

Next game is Wednesday, I believe. *Checking…* Wednesday against the Blues. Puck drops at 7:30 EST. This game is huge. We can’t catch them, but we can remind them that we’re still a force.
