Detroit vs Edmonton: Home Again

Tonight marks the first time this season that a goalie other than Jimmy Howard will get the start at home this season. It’s also a chance for the Wings to extend their franchise record 17-game home win streak where they haven’t lost since November 3rd.

Tonight is the start of 6 at home, and with 18 of the final 28 games played at the Joe Detroit has the best chance of holding onto the top spot in the central.

All signs point to Joey Mac-daddy-Donald getting the start after showing he can out stop Conklin, and at least give the team a chance to win a game. That is of course, only if the team that decides to show up in front of him is the one that plays smart effective hockey for 60 minutes.

There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said about this team. They are the best in the NHL when they play their game, but when they take shifts off and over think, they struggle. It’s teams like the Oilers and Islanders that seem to give the Wings the most trouble. Whether they take those teams for granted, or just don’t feel they need to expend the energy.

The Oilers have the worst road record in the NHL at 6-19-2, something that the Wings should be able to capitalize on.

Game notes aren’t working this morning, so I will leave you with the only one that truly matters.
