“Kostopoulos delivered a blow to the head of an unsuspecting and vulnerable player. As well, he targeted the head of his opponent and, while the hit was not from the blindside, the head was the principle point of contact. The fact that Brad Stuart was not in possession of the puck when the blow was delivered and the serious nature of the player’s injury were also considered in my decision.” –Colie Campbell
That quote comes right from NHL.com with the announcement that Tom Kostopoulos has been suspended six games after breaking Stuey’s jaw. He also has has donated $29,569.92 to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund in the form of a fine based on his salary.
So that’s that. I don’t really know what to think about six games…especially if this warrants four games…
…then maybe the suspension was a little light – considering Stuar will be out for more than six weeks.
What do you guys think?
