“Ever since I hurt it (two months ago) it really hasn’t went away. It got to a point where I couldn’t do it any more on the ice. It progressively got worse and worse over time. Hopefully, it’s not that bad and I’ll be back soon.” –Chris Osgood
That quote was gathered by Khan(!) who was burning the candle at both ends last night. Ozzie is flying back home to Detroit today and will then head to Philly to see the same specialist that performed sports hernia surgery on Holmstrom and Draper. If Ozzie does indeed require surgery – he’ll be out a month and a half, minimum.
In the meantime, Joey MacDonald has been recalled from Grand Rapids. I guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of Jimmy Howard over the coming weeks. Jimmy has played two outstanding games (aside from the start of the Calgary game) and has a league-leading 22 wins on the season.
The Red Wings wrap up there Northwestern swing with a game against the speedy upstart Avalanche tomorrow. The Wings defeated all three Canadian teams – a pleasant and most welcome surprise. Unfortunately, the body count continues to rise as Stuart, Filppula, and now Osgood have been added to the injury list.
Let us hope and wish that Ozzie will NOT need to go under the knife.
