Holding Our Breath

datsyukplayerpic“I just take a hit – lower-body injury.  I’m hoping (to play Saturday in Nashville), but now it’s after the game. In a couple of days we’ll see. Tomorrow we’ll make a decision. See how it feels in the morning.” –Pavel Datsyuk

That quote via Khan(!) after the game last night.  Both Datsyuk and Rafalski were injured last night during the third period.  The Wings went on to win without them thanks to Joey MacDonald’s 37 saves…but losing Raf and Dangles makes the ‘W’ come at a pretty heavy price.  We have to just sit and wait with baited breath to see how serious each injury is…

“See if the swelling goes down tomorrow.  Can’t let it get stiffened up. At first the pain was (bad) and then it started going away after a few seconds.  I don’t know if it’s bone on bone.  I haven’t had an ACL in that knee since I was 16-17. As long as the MCL is OK, it’s just a matter of making sure I strengthen it.” –Brian Rafalski

It turns out that Rafalski already was wearing a brace on the knee that went into the boards, so that probably helped prevent a more major injury (we hope).

Datsyuk doesn’t know whether or not he’ll need an MRI or X-rays and Rafalski doesn’t think so.

Ugh…please be alright, guys.

And just to try and cheer you up a little – Dallas beat Chicago 5-0 last night, increasing our Central Division lead to ten points and putting the Hawks in seventh place.  If the play-offs started today, we’d be playing little brother in the first round.  I’ve been suggesting this matchup to some local Hawk fans…they all are terrified of it.
