Eaves Fine, Helm on Fire

helmplayerpic“I think I’m just starting to find my step, not necessarily speed, but confidence.  Seeing the ice a little better than I have been, getting a lot more ice time and opportunities. When you get that it’s a lot easier to get into a game, get focused.” –The Namesake

That quote from Khan(!) after last night’s victory.  Datsyuk has missed 15 games…Cleary has missed 14.  In 13 of those games, Darren “Unleash” Helm has accumulated 12 points.  The man is on fire right now, finding that scoring touch we’ve been oh-so-longing to see for the past couple of years.  Of course, he did have it back in ’09 in the play-offs…

The Namesake is just three points shy of his career best with 33 games left in this season.  Secondary scoring has been the key to Detroit’s success in the face of adversity this season.  Case in point, with last night’s second goal – Valtteri Filppula has a share of the team lead with five game-winning-goals this season along with Danny Cleary.

Oh and Babcock says that Eaves is fine after Brian Rolston tagged him in the face with his stick.  Purely accidental…but still not cool – especially from a Michigan native.

On the non-accidental front…did anyone see Vancouver’s Keith Ballard outright spear Nashville’s Joel Ward in the face last night?  Not pretty.  But the ‘Nucks and all their nastiness managed to keep Nashville at arm’s length in the Central Division.
