Bring on the Sushi

“They got a good thing going, we got a good thing going.  It’s going to be a good matchup. We haven’t seen them in a long time. Since then, they put themselves right in the playoff mix. We’re doing things right and we’re playing well and we just want to keep that going.” –Kris Draper via Khan(!)

Two hot teams face off tonight on the ice.  San Jose has won three straight games and Detroit is riding a season-high five game winning streak.  Both times that Detroit and San Jose met earlier this season, the team that came out on top scored five goals.  But, of course, our captain preaches defensive as they key:

“I think we’re paying more attention to details and I think we’re working harder and smarter, having the forwards coming back, and the (defense) trying to stand up and not give them a whole lot of room.  If we get caught in our own zone, we’re doing a better job of sorting it out, not giving them clear-cut chances in the slot. We’re being more aggressive in our own zone and taking care of the puck when we get it.” –Nick Lidstrom

But the head coach has a more simplistic view of why Detroit has been playing so well…

“Pavel is back.  So we all got better when Pavel arrived. Let’s not kid ourselves.” –Mike Babcock

Tonight will be one of many games Detroit will have to play down the stretch against a whole bunch of teams competing for not-so-many play-off spots.  Hopefully the improved defensive play and goaltending from Jimmy Howard will be able to keep our streak going.
