Nicklas Lidstrom played in the NHL All-Star Game in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008 – he was also selected in 2009 but couldn’t play because he was injured…and thus was suspended by Gary Bettman.
Pavel Datsyuk played in the NHL All-Star Game in 2004 and 2008 – he was also selected in 2009 but couldn’t play because he was injured…and thus was suspended by Gary Bettman.
Henrik Zetterberg was selected to play in the NHL All-Star Game in 2007 but couldn’t play because of a wrist injury (no suspension). He was also selected to play in the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, but had to withdraw because of back spasms (luckily…there was, again, no suspension).
So apparently, 2009 Gary starting suspending 100% of the players that he DID NOT MAKE A PERSONAL PHONE CALL TO who opted out of playing in the All-Star Game because of injury. That, and Henrik Zetterberg is yet to make an appearance as a first team NHL All-Star.
He talked to the Free Press about his misfortune of becoming injured the two times he was voted in:
“Some unfortunate situations there.”– Henrik Zetterberg
And that’s all that he’s going to say about that.
One member of the Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet is urging all of his countrymen readers to vote to get Hank back into the ASG. Sensing that voting him in may cause the Swedish sniper to become injured again, Hank sent the reporter a text messaging suggesting that he might pull his credentials and give them to Pinky…
…just kidding about the Pinky part, no one would let that guy into the locker room…ever.
But isn’t it about time we saw Hank in an All-Star jersey?
