“We have a dozen players, some from other teams who spend the summers in Michigan, who are training together on the ice in the Detroit suburb of Troy. More guys are coming into the detail, they’ll come either later this week or next week. On Thursday we’re moving to Joe Louis Arena; they’re [putting down the ice] there now.”–Nick Lidstrom.
Aside from Lidstrom, Tomas Holmstrom, Todd Bertuzzi, Brian Rafalski, Dan Cleary and Kris Draper were among those who are already skating.
I had a short conversation via text with my inside source this morning and he informed me that Jiri Hudler is also back in the States and is currently working out with the same guy who put together Chris Chelios’s training regiment. That is excellent news, since Chelios was an absolute freak about training and staying in shape – one of the main reasons he was able to play for so long. It’s good to see that Happy is taking his return very seriously and is working hard to be ready.
You may remember back in June when I posted an article called “Note to Hudler – Be Ready“:
Most guys would be granted a little time to adjust to the NHL after playing abroad. But Hudler owes this franchise and better work his tail off to actually be worth the $2.875 million he was awarded in arbitrtation last summer. He was the one curve ball that took the Red Wings off guard during last year’s off-season exodus.
Looks like he took what I wrote to heart…
