To Bert or Not to Bert?

From the Windsor Star

“We went over our team, what we ideally would like to see our roster to be.  We went through the list of unrestricted free agents, knowing some will be signed by their current teams between now and July 1. I’ll take that knowledge to help me prepare for free agency.”–Ken Holland

Yes, we’re less than a month away from the Free Agent period…though it seems like it’s been a decade since the Red Wings played hockey…it’s going to be a long summer.  Though, unlike last season, we’re not entering July 1st with any real apprehension or anticipation.  We knew that the Cap was going to bit us in the butt last year…and it did, but this year is going to be a lot less climactic.

One decision that has yet to be made is whether or not Todd Bertuzzi will be re-signed with Detroit.  Here’s what Kenny had to say about it his dealings with Bertuzzi’s agent, Pat Morris…

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with Pat Morris.  I don’t know where it’s going to go.”

I think we Red Wings fans were mostly in agreement that if we can get Big Bert signed at equal or lesser value than the $1.5 million Cap hit from last season, that it should definitely be done.  Bertuzzi has expressed an interest in staying…but let’s see if he really means it.  No timetable has been given as to when the final decision will be made.
