Sad Day for Puck Daddy

Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy, a New Jersey Devils fan, is not a happy camper today.

Eleven days after becoming the last team to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Philadelphia Flyers are the first one to advance to the second round — and the New Jersey Devils are the first club heading for home.

Should everything go to plan, the Red Wings will NOT face the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup Finals.  So in fact, Ilya Kovalchuck got to play in exactly 5 more games this season than did the Atlanta Thrashers…ouch.

That’s probably not a good bargaining chip for Lou “I look like the evilist man alive” Lamoriello to use when Kovalchuk becomes an unrestricted Free Agent on July 1st.  Guess that big trade deadline acquisition didn’t quite pan out.

I still say, as I did before the season starts, that Kovalchuk could end up in Detroit.
