Done Deal. Lidas is Back for 19th Season

From Khan(!) who was right all along…

The Detroit Red Wings have signed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to a one-year contract, general manager Ken Holland said Tuesday afternoon.

Way to go Nick and way to go, Kenny.  I had my doubts…one more year of #5 on the ice…then never again in a Red Wings jersey.

“I’m very excited.  I still believe, especially after watching him the last half of the year and in the playoffs, that we have the best two-way defenseman in the world. He’s excited to come back, we’re excited to have him.  He’s helped give us some extra (salary) cap space.  Hopefully the cap goes up a little and it gives us a little wiggle room to improve the depth of our team.”–Kenny Holland

Holland wouldn’t say how much the one-year deal is worth, but it will be less than the $7.45 million that he earned this year.  It will probably be just a hair over what Rafalski is making right now ($6 million).  I think Twig said it best:

Anyone making over $6 million is now over-paid.
