Another Hawk Bites the Dust

Just hours after dealing Dustin Byfuglien and Brent Sopel continued, Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman continued to reshape his roster on Thursday morning.

Aiming to create more salary-cap space, the Blackhawks traded the rights to restricted free agent Colin Fraser to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the NHL Entry Draft, which begins Friday night in Los Angeles.

Fraser (25 years old) was never anything all that special…but Chicago is trading away yet another RFA that wouldn’t have been able to afford.  Stan Bowman is certainly being a busy little bee.

I hope you like cold winters, Colin.

Fraser, as you may have noticed, wasn’t included on my list that I created on CapGeek earlier today (before the blog when on the fritz).  That’s because I only included players that were currently under contract.  Which means that even with this deal, the Blackhawks are still in as much trouble as they were even after the Big Buff/Ben Eager deal.

This is somewhat amusing to me…
