About N.O.H.S.

The Nightmare on Helm Street is an unofficial blog overwhelmingly dedicated to the Detroit Red Wings and the destruction of their enemies. Drew started a non-partisan blog in 2008 which failed miserably and he eventually created N.O.H.S. on the scorched Earth thereafter in July 2009. Chris was added as an author three months later. Both are washed up college hockey players, except Chris is a stupid goalie.

From InsideToronto.com:

"Our big one this year is a big South Etobicoke boy - Brendan Shanahan.  He's going to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame one day, but we're getting him first."--Jim Sturino, Chair of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame

That's right...THE Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame is opening it's doors to former Red Wing Brendan Shanahan.  They did have a nice little write about the guy;

Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils second overall in the 1987 NHL draft, Shanahan went on to play with the St. Louis Blues, the Hartford Whalers, the Detroit Red Wings, the New York Rangers, and the Devils, scoring 656 goals in his NHL career. All three of his Stanley Cup championships were won with Detroit, where he spent the majority of his career. Shanahan retired as the leader among active NHL players for goals scored, and as the only player in NHL history with more than 600 goals and 2,000 penalty minutes.

Shanny was absolutely loved in Detroit.  He did what Sergei Fedorov couldn't do - be a star on the team but at the same time realize that it was Stevie's team.  Of course, he and Babbles didn't see eye-to-eye, but at that point - I think we had seen the best that Shanny had to offer Detroit.

I miss hearing the Irish Jig after #14 popped in another goal at the Joe.

But my absolute favorite moment of Shanny is him going air-to-air missile with Patrick Roy.

Shanahan thinking: "Oh....I don't think so, Patty."

Thanks for the memories, Shanny.

I am setting up a bar in my basement and want to decorate it with framed photos. Does anyone know where I can buy this photo (the one with McCarty hammering Lemieux)?

Uh, I was born in Etobicoke. It used to be its own city, but was amalgamated with 5 other municipalities to become the Megacity (as they called it) of Toronto about 15 years ago.

Good for Shanny. This is just the first of many HOFs he's going to be in. He's only another 2 years away from the big one, but you've gotta start somewhere.

One of my fondest memories of Shanny was at a Wings vs. Sharks game in San Jose; Wings were down 5-6 when Shanny scored 2 in the last 6 minutes to win it 7-6…. To this day it remains my favorite game I attended. I remember with 30 seconds left, a sharks fan was trudging down the aisle and I yelled out “Where are you going buddy, there still time left!” The guy turned around flipped me the bird and screamed F@*K YOU!” my friend and I just pointed and laughed…. All due to Shan the Man, Thanks for the memories.
