Janik Gets a New Deal

From Khan(!)

The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Doug Janik to a two-year contract and officially parted ways with forward Jason Williams on Wednesday.

Well now, I must admit I didn’t see this one coming.  Janik must be pretty content with being a Griffin.

“We liked him in Grand Rapids.  He’s a real leader, a competitor, safe, dependable. He’ll kill penalties.  He gives us good depth. We’ll see what he can do in training camp. We think we’ll have good competition. You need more than seven defensemen over the course of 82 games.”–Kenny Holland

The 30 year old’s new deal is a two-way deal for next season and then becomes a one-way deal the year after that.
