Howard is Detroit’s Rookie of the Year

From the Free Press

Goaltender Jimmy Howard was named Red Wings rookie of the year today by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association.

No shock there.  But Jimmy has bigger ROTY fish to fry…go get ’em in Vegas, kid.

“It’s a tremendous honor.  I’m very happy to be a part of the Red Wings organization. My coaches and teammates — in particular, Jim Bedard and Chris Osgood — really helped me along through my first full season in the National Hockey League. I’m already looking forward to 2010-11.”–Jimmy Howard

We really couldn’t have asked more of Howard, who showed tremendous patience with the organ-i-zation (I’m looking at you, Yzerman) before getting his big break.  Jimmy, who many had given up on, came through in tremendous fashion.

He should be up for team MVP, as well as Detroit’s Athlete of the Year.  Without Jimmy, Detroit doesn’t make the play-offs this year and instead of re-signing everyone, Holland might be shopping for answers in the wrong places.

Congrats, Jimmah!
