About N.O.H.S.

The Nightmare on Helm Street is an unofficial blog overwhelmingly dedicated to the Detroit Red Wings and the destruction of their enemies. Drew started a non-partisan blog in 2008 which failed miserably and he eventually created N.O.H.S. on the scorched Earth thereafter in July 2009. Chris was added as an author three months later. Both are washed up college hockey players, except Chris is a stupid goalie.  The third author, Brendan aka "Sully", was brought in at the end of August 2010.  Sully is a native of Arizona, but a die-hard Red Wings fan with a unique perspective.

...what the hell was the ref looking at in this one?  Needless to say, Lidstrom who according to Khan(!) needed to get 5 stitches in his lip as a reult, was not pleased...

"They said it was Fil's stick. Fil wasn't even close.  They would have been better off telling me they missed it.''

Thanks to PaulInMiamiBeach, of The A2Y 19 for the pic.

The Perfect Human is angry.  Usually, he's a pretty reserved guy.  But to make him bleed is to make him angry.  And you know what?  I dig it.  Use that fire in Game 2 King Lidas, we'll need it.

I don't know Drew. After seeing that screen shot, I believe what we actually have here is Fil getting away with using an illegal stick. That composite stick is clearly not regulation length. Perhaps we should instead be thanking the refs for not giving Fil a penalty for both high sticking AND illegal equipment. Whew.

Let's be honest. The ref didn't miss it and he didn't think it was Fil's stick. 6 mins left, 5-3 for 1:20 and a 4 min PP while your co-workers are up by a goal and the boss is watching. The refs didn't miss it or mistake it for someone else's stick. They ignored it.

@ DetKhanC19

That's just a solid comment. Probably my favorite in a long time.

@Jess

Whatever evidence you THINK you see about Fil's stick is completely inconclusive...which may not matter to the War Room in Toronto, but that stuff doesn't fly around here.

Did anyone else find it weird that Bettman happened to be there? Of all the games he could have been at he was in Phoenix?

I would have missed the call to if my boss was sitting in the stands.

@ Keith

Lil Gary was already in town to help work on the deal to sell his team to Reinsdorf. Rumor has it that he had his chest painted white under the suit he wore.

Last time I saw Nick get cut like that was Game 5 of the 2008 Stanley Cup finals. There wasn't a call on that play either.

I don't even wanna hear it. The refs missed a lot of calls against the wings too which I'm sure you all saw and went "whew!".

@ Yotes Fan

There's a difference between missing a subjective call like a hook or a hold (which admittedly the Wings got away with at times) and a guy being cut in the face with a stick causing blood to be on the ice. How do you explain that 4 officials all missed it? I know, the puck was already at least 5-6 ft away from Nick when it happened.

Enjoy your victory. It will be your last this year.

@Amerinadian
Obviously I cannot explain as I'm not a ref. But there were a few elbows and sticks flying on us that weren't called like the headshot to Jovo that was missed.

It won't be the last time we win. We kick butt at home and we've won in Detroit before so it's not like it can't be done.

Drew, I think you missed as bad as the refs in your interpretation of the post by Jess. I think the post was trying to say that if that was Fil's stick hitting him in the face it is obviously not a legal stick since it would be about three feet too long and have a weird curve.

Does anyone else think it's a conflict of interest for the NHL to be owning a team in the playoffs, commissioner in the building presiding over the game?

Just sayin'...

@YotesFan - and Jovo got away with plenty of crosschecks on Homer in front of the net (real crosschecks, not that pansy ass make-up call they made on Kronwall).

I understand that some stuff is let go for the flow of the game. Hooks and holds are very subjective calls to make.
High sticks are not subjective. It either made contact above the shoulders or it didn't. There really is no excuse for this call not being made.

Well, Homer shouldn't be interfering with our goalie (which wasn't called). smilies/smiley.gif

This wasn't nearly as bad as the two missed high sticks of the 4 minute variety in the Sharks/Av's game. And how the officials missed the call when the guys stick gets stuck in a visor like in the Vancouver/Kings game is beyond me.
